Cespedes likely to be Mets' only All-Star Game starter

June 27th, 2016

NEW YORK -- Yoenis Cespedes' late charge in All-Star Game voting has, at least temporarily, made him the most popular outfielder in the National League.
Sitting in third place as recently as Monday, the Mets outfielder received 41.5 percent more votes than Chicago's Dexter Fowler over the subsequent two days, according to a Wednesday release from Major League Baseball. That was enough for Cespedes to leapfrog both Fowler and Washington's Bryce Harper, who had been second in balloting.

FAQ: How All-Star reserves are selected
Cespedes is likely to be the Mets' only starter in San Diego. The only other Mets player in the top five in voting at his position is second baseman Neil Walker, who sits more than two million votes behind leader Ben Zobrist. But the Mets should be well-represented at Petco Park regardless, with pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia both strong candidates to make the team. Though fans do not vote for pitchers, NL manager Terry Collins will have a say in the roster's final composition.
