York latest city to support Play Ball, youth baseball

The city of York, Pa., played host to the latest event in the Play Ball initiative on Friday, when an All-Star team of public servants and local heroes lined up against a team of high school students.

The game took place at Santander Stadium, home of the York Revolution. It featured state representative Kevin Schreiber and former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Ron Johnson. Several other local officials, and Mayor Kim Bracey's grandson, Brandon, also participated in the event.

York is one of 100 cities around the country that have lined up to celebrate youth participation in baseball. The United States Conference of Mayors rallied behind the initiative, and Bracey, working through her second term in York, issued an official statement about Play Ball month:

"I encourage our youth to become involved in positive, healthy and fun activities such as baseball," Bracey said. "I am excited to support the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Major League Baseball's Play Ball initiative."
