Rumor roundup: Greinke to Dodgers or Giants

Astros shopping Carter, entertaining talks for Marisnick

The Red Sox made another Hot Stove splash on Tuesday, agreeing to terms with David Price, according to an MLB.com source, on the largest contract ever awarded to a pitcher, and if rumblings on the rumor mill are any indication, another big-name ace could ink a record deal this week.

Here's a look at some of the latest rumors floating around the big leagues:

Dodgers, Giants finalists for Greinke
Zack Greinke is the top starting pitcher available in free agency now that Price is off the board, and Greinke is expected to sign with either the Dodgers or rival Giants, according to multiple reports.

Greinke could make a decision by the end of the week, according to USA Today. The right-hander is said to be looking for a five- or six-year contract.

The Dodgers or Giants are sure to pay a hefty sum for Greinke's services. He's rumored to be seeking an average annual value greater than Price's deal with the Red Sox (reportedly seven years, $217 million).

Predictions for top free agents, trade targets

While it's clear the National League West rivals are serious contenders for Greinke, Dodgers ownership partner Magic Johnson told Yahoo! Sports on Monday that re-signing Greinke was the club's No. 1 priority this offseason.

Astros shopping Carter, listening on Marisnick
Chris Carter's time with the Astros appears to be coming to an end, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle. The club is said to be shopping the slugger and would like to move him before Wednesday's deadline to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players.

Carter is rumored to be on the move even if the Astros tender him a contract before the 11:59 p.m. ET deadline. The Astros reportedly would only offer Carter a contract if the club has a trade fit with another team. Otherwise, Carter could be non-tendered and become a free agent.

The Astros are also listening to offers on outfielder Jake Marisnick, according to ESPN.com, and are thought to be looking for pitching in return. The Indians, Mariners and Giants are said to be three possible trade fits.

Braves trying to acquire Pollock
The Braves are trying to pry center fielder A.J. Pollock from the D-backs, but have seen two trade offers declined, according to FOXSports.com.

Atlanta initially offered pitcher Shelby Miller for Pollock, but Arizona rejected the deal. The Braves were also rebuffed on an offer that included Miller and pitcher Arodys Vizcaino for Pollock and pitching prospect Aaron Blair.

It's not clear if the clubs are still engaged in trade talks.
