The Mets and Zack Wheeler have avoided arbitration by coming to terms on a one-year for 2017, the club announced on Wednesday. MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported the deal is worth $800,000.
Wheeler, 26, has missed each of the last two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent in March 2015. He is expected to be ready for the start of Spring Training in February.

Wheeler last pitched in 2014, when he went 11-11 with a 3.54 ERA for the Mets through 32 starts in his sophomore campaign. He resumed throwing this summer and returned to pitch in the Minors in August before elbow discomfort sidelined him again.
The Mets still have eight players up for arbitration, including Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey and Jeurys Familia. Players and their clubs are scheduled to exchange salary figures on Friday.
