Zim throws All-Star support behind teammates

NEW YORK -- If Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman had a vote, teammates Jordan Zimmermann and Ian Desmond would make the National League All-Star team.

Zimmermann leads the National League in wins with 11, and he is among the league leaders in WHIP with a 0.92 mark.

"He is just consistent," Zimmerman said. "For us who have been around him awhile, he has been like that for a good two years. He just goes out and goes about his business. It has become something we've come to expect every fifth day, which is a really good thing."

As for Desmond, he leads the Nationals in game-winning hits (10) and has been the hottest hitter during the month of June, batting .308 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs entering Saturday's action against the Mets.

"Shortstop is such a valuable position. To have someone like him to play defense and offense, it's hard to find," Zimmerman said.
