Zimmermann has faced the Pirates three times in his career, holding a 1-2 record with a 4.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts vs. the Bucs. In two career starts at PNC Park, the righty is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and eight strikeouts.

The Pirates will send right-hander Trevor Williams (4-4, 4.47) to the mound to square off against Zimmermann. The righty will be looking to continue his recent success on the mound at home in what will be his first career start against Detroit. In his last four starts at PNC Park, Williams has been charged with two earned runs or less while posting a 2.62 ERA.

Williams continues to be a reliable back-end starter for the Pirates. In his last 15 starts, he has a 3.86 ERA and has allowed only five home runs in 84 innings.

Three things to know about this game

• Jose Iglesias was placed on the bereavement list after a death occurred in his family on Sunday. The Tigers infielder could miss between the next three and seven days.

• David Freese is hitting .500 (5-for-10) against Zimmermann in his career with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.

• Williams has made one career Interleague start. In June, the righty faced the Rays and allowed two runs on six hits through seven innings and struck out seven.
