Each season, Major League Baseball awards "RBI for RBI" Scholarships to up to twelve RBI student-athletes who demonstrate academic achievement and leadership skills and who plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, vocational school or technical school. In 2017, Tiarra Basnight-Banks of the Baltimore Orioles RBI program was awarded one of the scholarships.
In her second season in the Baltimore Orioles RBI League, Tiarra played outfield for the 14-18 Orioles RBI Softball Division Champion Edreco Eagles. Tiarra, who carried a 4.3-weighted GPA in high school, is pursuing her dream of becoming a kinesiotherapist in her first year at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va. During her time in high school, Tiarra served on the board of her school's Student Government Association and was a loyal volunteer with the American Cancer Society. She is a true inspiration to her teammates and very well respected leader. Tiarra is the third "RBI for RBI" scholarship recipient from the Orioles RBI program since 2016. Timothy Dashiell and Cheyenne Durant were both honored from the Orioles RBI program last year. Timothy currently studies at Towson University, and Cheyenne is pursuing her degree at Frostburg State University.
