Orioles to help break ground on new technology and learning center with Brooklyn O'malley Boys and Girls Club

On Friday, July 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., ADAM JONES, the Orioles Wives, Orioles front office employees and volunteers from the Brooklyn O'Malley Boys and Girls Club will have a ground-breaking ceremony leading into the opening stages of construction for the new Technology and Learning Center at the Boys and Girls Club's facility at 3560 3rd Street in Baltimore.

Earlier this season, the Orioles Charitable Foundation and Jones donated $75,000 to the Club to renovate and expand the Technology and Learning Center. When complete, the renovation will enhance the Boys and Girls Club's ability to provide educational support, computer skill development and career enrichment, college preparatory and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs to its at-risk and underserved members. The new Technology and Learning Center will also be utilized by community members for employment search, financial literacy, GED and career and educational support.

Jones, who was a member of the Encanto Boys and Girls Club as a youth in San Diego, has been an active supporter of the Metropolitan Baltimore Boys and Girls Clubs throughout his time with the Orioles.

Once the project is complete, Jones will join members for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the new Center. The Orioles are also donating a player-used, autographed and authenticated regulation size ping-pong table to the Club. Accredited media who wish to cover this event should RSVP to Amanda Sarver at

On Tuesday, July 9 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, CHRIS TILLMAN will visit the Beth Tfiloh Camp in Reisterstown, MD. Tillman will meet with pre-registered campers, participate in a Q&A and take photos. This event is closed to the public.

On Wednesday, July 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., TOMMY HUNTER will sign autographs and greet fans at the Orioles Team Store at the York Galleria Mall in York, PA. The event, presented by Orioles Radio Network affiliate WSBA 910 AM, is free of charge and open to the public.

Before the Orioles' game against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, July 10, the team will host a special pre-game ceremony at Oriole Park for the student winners of the 2013 Philip F. Haxel, Sr. Elementary School Baton of Patriotism Essay contest. The contest was founded by the American Flag Foundation, the organization that brings the Living American Flag at Fort McHenry and the Traveling Living American Flag to Maryland schools. Mr. Philip F. Haxel, Jr., son of the humanitarian for whom the contest is named, will recognize the winners.

Once again, the Orioles have partnered with Giant Food stores this summer to host the Giant Honorary Bat Kids program. Children ages 6-14 can enter by filling out an entry form at select Giant Food stores and submitting in the entry box in the store or mailing the form directly to the Baltimore Orioles. This program will take place through August 30. One boy and one girl will be selected to be the Honorary Bat Kids at each Orioles game, excluding Sundays. Winners will receive four tickets to the game, on-field access to watch Orioles batting practice and the opportunity to receive autographs and an Orioles t-shirt and hat. Each winner will also participate in an on-field, pre-game ceremony in which they will be presented with an official Honorary Bat Boy/Girl certificate and have a photo opportunity with the Oriole Bird.

As part of the Orioles' Military Appreciation Program, sponsored by GEICO, the Orioles and OriolesREACH donate a catered private suite at each Sunday home game at Oriole Park to servicemen and women. This Sunday, July 14, military members from YELLOW RIBBON FUND will enjoy the game vs. the Toronto Blue Jays from a catered suite, have an opportunity for a meet and greet with NICK MARKAKIS and MATT WIETERS and receive an Under Armour player t-shirt.

The Orioles will again feature the Steal Second Base contest for every Sunday home game this season. Presented by ESSKAY, the Steal Second Base contest allows a young fan to participate in a timed race from the grounds crew area in center field to retrieve second base. Fans can sign up for the opportunity at the ballpark at any Fan Assistance Center. The lucky winner will receive four tickets to that day's game, gift certificates to use inside the park, an Orioles jersey and an Orioles prize pack. This year, the contestants will also get to keep the authentic base that they steal. This Sunday's winner is Julia Catalano, a 14-year old from Galena, MD.

During each home game the Orioles provide a community booth for charitable, non-profit organizations to distribute information, sell raffle tickets, register participants or conduct health care screenings for Orioles fans.
