BALTIMORE -- A vintage outing from veteran CC Sabathia and a big night from Brian McCann helped the Yankees snap their six-game losing streak with Wednesday's series-evening 7-0 win over the Orioles.
Sabathia went a season-high seven innings, holding Baltimore to six hits and striking out six as the Yankees beat the O's for the first time in their last seven matchups. McCann went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs driven in, propelling a struggling Yankees offense that had seen Alex Rodriguez placed on the disabled list prior to the game.
"We needed one. It's just been a tough start to the season for us," Sabathia said. "Hopefully we can get on a little roll now."

Orioles starter Tyler Wilson, inserted into the rotation with Yovani Gallardo's injury, went six innings and held New York to three runs (two earned), all scored in his final inning. The unearned run scored as a result of Wilson's own throwing error in the sixth.
"That's probably the thing that upsets me most about the outing," Wilson said of his miscue. "Obviously we practice and do that all the time, and there's no excuse for that. I pushed the ball into the ground, made a good grip, and then threw it into the ground. Stayed low, threw it, did everything the way we always practice it. I just didn't execute. That's 100 percent on me."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
CC rolls the clock back: Sabathia has struggled to command his offspeed stuff at times this year, but he had the Orioles off-balance all night with his mix of cutters, two-seam fastballs and changeups, ringing up a season-high six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings. It was Sabathia's first scoreless outing of seven or more innings since April 7, 2013, at Detroit.
"He is as good as they come. He's such a competitor; he's going to find a way," McCann said. "I know he's not throwing 93, 94, 95 [mph] anymore, but he wins ballgames. He's got over 200 wins. We want him on the mound."

O's cold bats: Baltimore had no answer for Sabathia, going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranding five over the lefty's seven innings. The Orioles had two extra-base hits, doubles by Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop, but hit into three rallying-killing double plays.

"That was [a blow]," Showalter said of the double plays. "It's a tribute to [Sabathia]. He made really good pitches in those situations, and we were maybe a little overaggressive. You're always trying to ride that line between being aggressive and selective, especially when you've got the lead. But Tyler matched him pitch for pitch. He deserved a better fate."
The O's loaded the bases with one out in the eighth inning, but Dellin Betances struck out Chris Davis and got Mark Trumbo to pop up in foul territory to end the threat.

Yanks scrape for one, get more: With Sabathia dealing zeros, the offense finally pieced together some support in the sixth inning, as Jacoby Ellsbury -- who reached base five times in the game -- singled, stole second, advanced on a Brett Gardner hit and scored on Carlos Beltran's sacrifice fly. The run-starved Yanks put more support in Sabathia's pocket as McCann singled home a run and Wilson threw wildly on a Starlin Castro dribbler, bringing in New York's third run.
"I think it was important we tacked on the runs on, because I thought we had a bunch of quality at-bats in the beginning and didn't have a whole lot to show for it," manager Joe Girardi said. "And then to be able to get a little break and then put up four more, I thought was really good. We got a great performance by CC. Shut them down for seven innings, got some big double plays when he needed to, and just a brilliant performance."

Baltimore gets no relief: A typically stout Orioles bullpen was anything but on Wednesday. Lefty T.J. McFarland, who pitched in the seventh, couldn't record an out in the eighth and was charged with three runs. Righty Dylan Bundy replaced him and allowed two hits, a walk and a hit batsman along with another run.

Wright gets a tune-up: The Orioles' scheduled starter for Saturday, Mike Wright pitched around a leadoff single to toss a scoreless ninth inning. It was his first relief outing of the year and one that the O's used to keep him fresh between starts.

Yankees:Masahiro Tanaka will make his sixth start of the season on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. ET as the Yankees complete their three-game series in Baltimore. Tanaka took a no-decision his last time out against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, taking a shutout into the seventh inning before allowing a two-run double on his 99th and final pitch.
Orioles: The Orioles will send Kevin Gausman to the hill to end the series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. ET. Gausman allowed three runs in six innings against the White Sox his last time out. He has a 2.79 ERA in 11 career games (five starts) against New York.
