SARASOTA, Fla. -- Joey Rickard's three-run home run keyed a four-run fourth that led the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
Phillies starter Jeremy Hellickson struck out six of his first eight hitters before Caleb Joseph hit his second home run of the spring. J.J. Hardy, playing his first game of Spring Training walked to lead off the third, and Mark Trumbo and Trey Mancini singled with one out before Rickard hit his 2nd home run of the spring.
"I probably threw one too many fastballs after that," Hellickson said of his run against the game's first eight batters. "I felt really good, just a couple balls I left up."
Kevin Gausman struggled through three innings, giving up two runs -- one unearned on three hits. The first Philadelphia run scored when Joseph dropped Hardy's throw, allowing Chris Coghlan to score in the first.
"I wasn't as crisp as I had been this spring," Gausman said. "Any time you throw that many pitches in three innings, you're not going to be happy."
Brock Stassi, trying out for a spot on the Phillies bench, hit his fourth home run of the spring, off Logan Verrett in the fourth. Nick Williams also hit his first homer of the spring and stunned the crowd with an incredible catch, stretching over the wall in the right-field corner in the eighth to rob Logan Schafer of a home run.
Phillies Up Next: The Phillies host the Braves in a Grapefruit League game at 1:05 p.m. ET Tuesday at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, in a game available on MLB.TV. Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff (0-1, 7.88 ERA) makes his fourth start of the spring. He is working on his changeup this month, wanting to utilize the pitch more than last season when he threw it just 5.1 percent of the time.
Baltimore Up Next: The Orioles host the Rays in a Grapefruit League game at 1:05 p.m. ET Tuesday at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. Left-hander Wade Miley is scheduled for his fourth spring start. In his last one, he allowed just two hits in three scoreless innings against Toronto.
