The Orioles placed designated hitter Mark Trumbo on the disabled list with right knee inflammation on Monday. The club also reinstated outfielder Adam Jones from the bereavement list and recalled outfielder John Andreoli from Triple-A Norfolk.
Trumbo said he's had good and bad days with the knee issue, which first cropped up in late May.
"Most days are pretty rough, though. I'm not able to really run too well," he said after the Orioles' 8-0 loss to the Indians on Sunday. "I guess I worry about not being able to help the team, especially costing someone a hit, or just being kind of a nothing out there on the bases right now."
Andreoli racks up miles
Andreoli was claimed off waivers from the Mariners on Sunday and immediately assigned to Triple-A. However, before he could play a game for Norfolk, the 28-year-old outfielder was summoned to Toronto to join the Orioles.
"He's been travelling all day," Orioles manger Buck Showalter said. "He flew from California to Norfolk, then he got on a plane early this morning … [and] he didn't get into Toronto until about 3-3:30, so I'm going to back off of him a little today and potentially play him tomorrow."
Andreoli made his Major League debut earlier this year, playing in three games with the Mariners. He went 1-for-5, but he looked strong in 89 games with the Mariner's Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers. He hit .287 with a .397 OBP and 19 steals at Triple-A where he split time between right field and center field.
"I can play all three outfield spots," Andreoli said. "I can get on base and put pressure of defenses and help the team score a lot of runs."
The Cubs selected Andreoli in the 17th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of the University of Connecticut. He's hit .270 with a .373 OBP in his Minor League career.
"He's a young athletic guy who's going to get an opportunity to impress," Showalter said.
