Reimold activated from DL, inserted into lineup

CHICAGO -- The Orioles activated Nolan Reimold from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's game against the White Sox and inserted him into the starting lineup, batting eighth and playing left field.

Reimold last played for Baltimore on May 11 and had been on the DL with a right hamstring strain that had hampered him since Spring Training.

"I expected it to take a little bit of time to heal up and then get the at-bats that I needed," said the 29-year-old Reimold, who posted a .196/.255/.304 line in 12 games for Double-A Bowie. "The team was playing well, guys were hitting, playing well, when I wasn't here. So there wasn't a huge rush to get back. Just wanted to make sure everything was good to go before I came here."

Reimold, a right-handed hitter, could get a few starts this week with the Orioles slated to face lefty starters John Danks, Hector Santiago and Jose Quintana in the White Sox series.

Before going on the DL, Reimold appeared in 31 games for the Orioles, batting .188/.257/.327 with a .242/.265/.424 line against left-handed pitching.

"I want Nolan to get his feet wet, just like [Brian Roberts] did DH-ing and now he's going to play second," manager Buck Showalter said. "I just want to go into the All-Star break with a good idea of what we have and what we don't have and what we can expect from these guys. It's encouraging to be getting some of these guys back."

Reimold finished Tuesday's 5-2 loss 1-for-3 with a single and a strikeout.
