O's add third baseman Liddi in deal with Mariners

Baltimore sends international bonus slot No. 2 to Seattle; Canzler designated

NEW YORK -- The Orioles made another move to improve their depth on Saturday, when they acquired third baseman Alex Liddi from Seattle. Baltimore sent international signing bonus slot No. 2 to Seattle in the transaction and received Seattle's international signing bonus slot No. 3 along with Liddi.

Liddi, the first Italian-born player to make it to the Major Leagues, was assigned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles, and veteran Russ Canzler was designated for assignment as a result. Liddi, 24, has appeared in 61 big league games for the Mariners and is a career .208 hitter.

Liddi was stationed with Triple-A Tacoma this year for Seattle, and he's batting .263 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs. The youngster played for Team Italy in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and batted .375 (3-for-8) with a double and two RBIs, and he's played in the Futures Game three times.
