BALTIMORE -- Former Rays farmhand Joey Rickard came up big on both sides of the field and was a bright spot in Baltimore's 6-4, 10-inning loss to Tampa Bay Friday night.
Facing Rays starter Jacob Faria for the second time in less than a week, Rickard homered en route to his second multi-RBI game of the year. He also put on a defensive show in the fifth inning.
"Joey had a good all-around night, as you want to see somebody have," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He was one of the few guys who had some good swings off their guy. He was solid."

After doubling in the O's first run in the third, Rickard made a fantastic on-the-run grab in foul territory, a highlight-reel-worthy play that was one of two defensive gems in the fifth.
With Baltimore down, 2-1, to Tampa Bay, Rickard first made a sensational grab on Mallex Smith's ball, going deep to the corner of left field to reach over into the seats and corral the ball. In doing so, he slammed up against the wall and spun around, but was able to hang on for the inning's second out.
The catch, rated as a three-star catch by Statcast™, involved Rickard going 90 feet in 5.1 seconds.
"It probably looked a little worse than how it felt," Rickard said of the grab. "I got away with a scab on my elbow. I'm just going out there, [Orioles starter] Chris Tillman is grinding out for us, just trying to make a play for him."
Rickard also made a sliding grab on Corey Dickerson's fading blooper to end the frame. For that one, Rickard had to go even farther -- traveling 62 feet in just four seconds for the four-star grab. It was Rickard's second four-star catch of the season and had a probability of 46 percent, according to Statcast™.
The outfielder's hustle wasn't lost on the crowd at Camden Yards, who gave Rickard a standing ovation as he jogged into the home dugout.

He capped his day with a game-tying solo homer off of Faria in the sixth inning. Rickard, who was the Orioles' Rule 5 Draft pick from Tampa Bay in 2015, played Advanced A, Double-A and Triple-A with the Rays' starter and said he didn't think it gave him much of an advantage.
"I saw the ball well tonight. I wouldn't say him specifically, but I'm going up there with a good game plan," said Rickard, who now has three homers on the season. "Talking with the hitting coaches a little bit, came up with a good game plan and [executed it]."
