SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Orioles' Pedro Alvarez and the Rays' Steven Souza Jr. traded grand slams on Sunday afternoon at Ed Smith Stadium as the teams played to an 8-8 tie.
Mark Trumbo also homered for the Orioles, who wound up with their fourth tie of the spring, while Logan Morrison and Evan Longoria paired up to go back-to-back for the Rays.

Alvarez had two hits in his last 17 at-bats before breaking a scoreless tie in the second inning with his first spring homer, a shot just over the left-center field wall off Tampa Bay non-roster invitee Jhan Marinez. Four innings later, he ripped a double to almost the same spot, knotting the game at 8-8 and finishing 2-for-4 with five RBIs.

On a favorable day for hitters, the Rays used the long ball to rally multiple times. Following Alvarez's slam, Morrison crushed a two-run shot to deep center off Orioles starter Chris Tillman, and Longoria followed with a solo job to left. It was the first spring homer for both, as Morrison finished 3-for-3 with a double and Longoria 2-for-3.
"Continuing to build. Feel like I've been swinging it better the last week or so," said Morrison. "Taking my line drives the other way, and I was able to get the head out a couple of times today."

"Those were mistakes, and they deserved to get hit," Tillman said of the homers. "It is what it is. Our guys hit some, too, so it goes both ways."
In his second spring start, Tillman otherwise held down the Rays' offense, giving up five hits and one walk while striking out five over four innings. Left-hander T.J. McFarland took over in the fifth and served up Souza's first spring homer, a game-tying slam over the scoreboard in center.
Kean Wong's RBI single off McFarland gave Tampa Bay an 8-7 lead in the sixth before Alvarez tied the score again.

Caleb Joseph and Hyun Soo Kim both picked up two hits for the Orioles, with Joseph driving in a run.

Up next for the Rays: The Rays will be off on Monday, though right-hander Jake Odorizzi will pitch in a Minor League game at Charlotte Sports Complex. Left-hander Matt Moore will start Tuesday afternoon's game against the Cuban National Team in Havana that will start at 1:50 p.m. ET. Also expected to pitch Tuesday are right-handers Ryan Webb, Steve Geltz, and Alex Colome, along with left-handers Enny Romero and Xavier Cedeno.
Up next for the Orioles: Baltimore has its only off-day of the Grapefruit League schedule on Monday. The club will return to action on Tuesday, taking on the Twins in Fort Myers, Fla., at 1:05 p.m. ET. In the teams' sixth and final meeting this spring, right-hander Mike Wright gets the start for the Orioles after tossing five scoreless innings against Minnesota on Thursday.
