Wieters dealing with slight ankle sprain

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Orioles catcher Matt Wieters was not in Wednesday's lineup and will be sidelined until at least Saturday with a slight right ankle sprain.

"Nothing too major," said Wieters, who suffered the injury rounding third base in Tuesday's game. "Regular season, you'd probably tough through it, but I'll take a couple days off it and get back to full strength and be ready to go in a few days."

Manager Buck Showalter agreed that Wieters could have played on Wednesday, but with a pair of back-to-back road games -- which the starter wouldn't travel to anyhow -- it's better to just give him some extended rest now. There are no plans for X-rays and Wieters, who had the area wrapped, said it just felt a little stiff when he woke up Wednesday morning.

"Just try to stay off my feet today and see how it is tomorrow," he said. "I might take some swings tomorrow if it feels up to it."
