Padres host Dodgers, Rockies as first homestand continues

Homestand highlighted by Chase Headley Bobblehead giveaway and Military Opening Day

The Padres' first homestand of the 2013 season continues Wednesday, April 10 with the continuation of three-game series against the Dodgers, followed by a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies. Highlights of the homestand include the Chase Headley Bobblehead giveaway presented by FOX Sports San Diego and Military Opening Day presented by Northrop Grumman.

Home action continues on Wednesday, with a 7:10 p.m. start against the Dodgers. The first 25,000 fans in attendance will receive a 2013 Padres schedule cling and SD decal, presented by Aladdin Bail Bonds.

This season, Major League Baseball is teaming up with Autism Speaks in a league-wide effort to support Autism Awareness.  Autism Speaks is the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization. The Padres will mark Autism Awareness month Wednesday during a special pregame ceremony featuring the national president of Autism Speaks, Liz Feld.

Thursday marks the first College Night of the season. The weekend starts Thursday with Padres College Nights, featuring special ticket discounts for college students with a valid student ID ($10 in Right Field Upper Reserved College Night section). A DJ from Channel 93.3 will be spinning at the Budweiser Patio in Right Field from 6:00 p.m. until the conclusion of the game. For more information on the five College Night events in 2013, visit

Friday's game will be preceded by the first Friday Night Party at the Park event of the season. Ultimate Cookout will feature food specials from nine different BBQ vendors, including Phil's BBQ and Randy Jones BBQ, as well as live entertainment by Southbound Jonny, San Diego's most wanted country band. Admission is included with a paid ticket to that night's game. Gates open for all Party at the Park events at 4:30 p.m.

Prior to Friday's game, new San Diego Chargers Head Coach Mike McCoy and General Manager Tom Telesco will throw the Ceremonial First Pitch, and Padres infielder Everth Cabrera will be presented with the Lou Brock Award for leading the National League in stolen bases in 2012.

The first 25,000 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a Chase Headley Bobblehead presented by FOX Sports San Diego. Prior to the game, Headley will be presented with his 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove and his 2012 Louisville Silver Slugger awards. Former Padres catcher Benito Santiago will present Headley with the awards and throw the Ceremonial First Pitch. Santiago and Headley are two of the four Padres who have won the Rawlings Gold Glove and Louisville Silver Slugger in the same year (also, Gwynn and Caminiti). Saturday is also Faith & Fellowship Night at Petco Park, featuring a postgame concert by for KING & COUNTRY, as well as postgame player testimonies.

Every Sunday at Petco Park is Military Sunday and family day, with military tributes and additional family-friendly activities. Padres players will wear their Marine digital camouflage uniforms in tribute to the Armed Forces, while the club hosts Marine Recruits in the Upper Deck and honors service members, military families and veterans from all branches for their service.

Sunday's series finale against the Rockies marks Military Opening Day presented by Northrop Grumman. Pregame ceremonies for Military Opening Day will include nearly 200 active duty men and women lining the base paths, the 50 State Flag Team from Marine Corps Recruit Depot and a National Anthem performance by Navy Band Southwest. The ceremony also will recognize the San Diego Military Advisory Council and the REBOOT veteran transition program for their efforts in support of service members and their families. Military Take the Field, which has become a Sunday tradition, will feature representatives from the Air Force, Army, California National Guard, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy. MajGen Ronald Bailey, Commanding Officer of the First Marine Division, will throw the Ceremonial First Pitch. In addition Sunday, Laura Brayton, a military spouse representing the Armed Services Armed Services YMCA San Diego will be accompanied by her husband, USMC Capt. Andrew Brayton as she sings "God Bless America" during the 7th inning break.

Prior to all Sunday home games, fans with tickets are invited to enjoy Breakfast at the Park. Special breakfast menu items will be offered for purchase at Park at the Park. In addition to seating at the Park at the Park, tables may be set up on the warning track, allowing fans to dine on the Petco Park field. Field seating will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, barring batting practice. Select gates will open to Season Ticket Holders with reservations at 10:00 a.m. Gates will open to the general public at 10:30 a.m.

From 11:30 a.m. to noon, two Padres players will sign autographs at the Park at the Park for Jr. Padres Sunday Signings. A Junior Padres membership is required to participate in the signing event. Membership is free, and kids can sign up online or in-person on the day of the event.

Also at Park at the Park prior to Sunday's game, representatives from the YMCA will join the Swinging Friar and Pad Squad in leading FriarFit Instant Recess, part of an overall fitness initiative presented by the YMCA, designed to improve the health and wellness of San Diegans.
