Padres agree to terms with First-Round pick OF Hunter Renfroe

Outfielder out of Mississippi State University was selected 13th overall

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres announced today that they have agreed to terms with their first-round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, outfielder Hunter Renfroe out of Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement. 

Recommended by Padres Area Scout Andrew Salvo, Renfroe hit .352 (80-for-227) this past season as a junior for the national runner-up Bulldogs, collecting 15 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 58 RBI, 51 runs scored, nine stolen bases, a .440 on-base percentage and .634 slugging percentage in 59 games played. His 15 home runs ranked among the Top 20 across all conferences of NCAA Division I leaders. As a senior in high school in 2010, the right-handed hitter set a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) record with 20 home runs, hitting .583 with 49 hits, 70 RBI en route to being names MAIS Player of the Year.

Renfroe is the second college position player selected by the Padres with their number one overall pick in the last three years. The 21-year-old was rated as the top corner outfielder and 11th-best prospect by Baseball America among all players in the 2013 Draft class. He will report to the Padres' Short-season affiliate Eugene tomorrow.       

The Padres have now signed 30 of their 41 2013 draft picks, including each of the first 19 selections. A complete list of this year's draft selections are included in the attached document. ­­The deadline for MLB clubs to sign 2013 selections is Friday, July 12.
