Asencio breaks out with five hits for Double-A club

Fellow Padres OF prospect Liriano extends hitting streak with four singles

The Padres' Double-A San Antonio affiliate cruised to a 12-0 win over Northwest Arkansas, piling on 22 hits in the process. Leading the charge? One of their top prospects and a 2013 Futures Game participant.

Left fielder Yeison Asencio, the 24-year-old who played in last summer's prospect showcase at Citi Field, went 5-for-6 with two homers, five RBIs and three runs in the Missions' rout of the Naturals. Meanwhile, right fielder Rymer Liriano, the Padres' No. 6 prospect, tacked on four singles.

Liriano, 22, has hit safely in six straight games, with three multi-hit performances mixed in. He's batting .290/.364/.528 with 10 homers, 28 RBIs and nine stolen bases in 46 games this season -- an encouraging step forward after he missed the entire 2013 season following Tommy John surgery.

Before the injury sidelined Liriano, he had already made it up to Double-A in 2012, posting strong numbers and impressing scouts along the way. So far this year, it seems he's gotten back on the right track fairly quickly.

Asencio, meanwhile, is batting just .230/.260/.333 with three homers, 10 RBIs and 32 strikeouts to only six walks in 45 games this season. But he broke out in a big way Friday, hitting a three-run blast in the fourth inning and a two-run shot in the sixth.

Missions first baseman Jason Hagerty also enjoyed a four-hit day Friday, going 4-for-5 with a double, while center fielder and No. 16 prospect Reymond Fuentes went 3-for-6 with a two-run homer, two RBIs and three runs.
