William Myers became the third Padre ever to hit five homers in a three-game span Monday night when he connected off Dodgers' left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson leading off the ninth at Petco Park.
     
Myers joined Nate Colbert (1972) and Brian Giles (2007).
     
But Myers didn't exactly match Colbert's feat on Aug. 1, 1972, in Atlanta.
     
Colbert's five homers came in a single day . . . in a doubleheader.
     
The first baseman hit five home runs and drove in 13 runs as the Padres swept a doubleheader. The five home runs tied a doubleheader record set by Hall of Famer Stan Musial in 1954 for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 13 RBIs set a since-tied Major League record.
     
On that day, Colbert also had the first of the nine, three-homer games by a Padre. His 22 total bases are a still-standing Padres doubleheader along with the five homers and 13 RBIs.
     
Myers has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, going 14-for-37 (.378) with two doubles, a triple, six home runs, 13 RBIs, 10 runs scored and six walks - for a .465 on-base percentage and a .973 slugging percentage for a 1.438 OPS.
     
Monday night's homer was also Myers' 32nd at Petco Park - tying him for fifth with Jedd Gyorko on the all-time Petco Park home run list. Adrian Gonzalez leads with 65.

--1B Eric Hosmer doubled in back-to-back games Sunday and Monday for the first time since May 17-18. But he was 2-for-12 in those two games and is in a 3-for-37 (.081) drought since June 30 that includes the first five-game hitless streak of his career. Hosmer has only two RBIs and two runs scored during the slump with a .059 on-base percentage.
     
--Although the Padres lost 8-2 Monday night, the combination of starter Luis Perdomo going seven innings and Walker Lockett pitching two innings on the day he arrived supplied relief to a Padres bullpen that had worked 17 innings the previous two games. Before Tuesday night, Robbie Erlin appeared in three straight games (three innings total) while Phil Hughes (three innings) and Kirby Yates appeared in two straight games.
     
--RHP Tyson Ross went only two innings Saturday night while LHP Clayton Richard went only five innings of Sunday's 16-inning marathon. It was the shortest outing of the season in 18 starts for Ross and the first time in 11 straight starts since May 8 that Richard didn't complete at least six innings which is a troublesome statistic from the two pitchers counted upon to supply length to the Padres rotation. Two other troubling statistics: Ross has given up 15 runs on 14 hits and five walks over seven innings in his last two starts while striking out only two. Richard has allowed 12 runs on 21 hits and 10 walks with four strikeouts over 18 innings in his last three starts for a 6.00 earned run average.
     
--RHP Miguel Diaz's one day in the Major Leagues was notable. He struck out five while allowing a hit in two innings Sunday. Four of those strikeouts came in the first inning he worked (the 11th) during the 16-inning marathon, with one strikeout victim reaching first on a wild pitch. Diaz joined Luke Gregerson as the only pitchers in Padres' history to strike out four hitters in an inning. Gregerson did it on Oct. 4, 2009 against the Giants.
