Phase 2 of the Chevrolet MLB All-Star Ballot has arrived, and that means some of the most exciting players in MLB going head to head for the right to start the 92nd All-Star Game on July 19 at Dodger Stadium.

The Phase 1 results were announced last Thursday, leaving two final candidates per league at each position except for outfield, where four finalists will battle it out for two spots. (The Yankees' Aaron Judge and the Braves' Ronald Acuña Jr. clinched automatic starting spots by virtue of being their respective leagues' top vote-getters in Phase 1). In each case, vote counts start over from zero rather than carrying over from Phase 1.

Fans can vote once per day in Phase 2, which began on Tuesday and continues until 2 p.m. ET on Friday. Unsure of which box to check? MLB.com is here to help, with breakdowns of some of the more intriguing one-on-one ballot showdowns.

One of the most intriguing is at NL third base, where St Louis' Nolan Arenado and San Diego's Manny Machado are squaring off. Here is what you need to know:

DEFINING STAT (THROUGH JULY 4)

Arenado: 10 Outs Above Average
Arenado -- a nine-time Gold Glove winner -- has long been one of the very best defenders in all of baseball. This year, he may be even better than ever. The slick-fielding third baseman already has 10 Outs Above Average this year, which is tied for third in the Majors and tops among those who man the hot corner.

Machado: .318 batting average
Historically, Machado has been one of those rare sluggers who combines power and a solid batting average. He's taken his contact skills to another level this year, posting a career-high .318 batting average as of July 4, which ranks tied for fourth in baseball among qualified hitters.

FIRST-HALF PERFORMANCE

Arenado: The 3-4 duo of Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt has turned the Cardinals into one of the best offenses in baseball and a clear contender in the NL Central. While he isn't putting up the eye-popping raw numbers he produced in Coors Field, advanced metrics say he's having the best offensive season of his career. If the season ended today, Arenado's 149 wRC+ would be, by far, a career high. He kicked off July by hitting for the cycle and followed that up with a two-homer game on July 2.

Machado: With Fernando Tatis Jr. out due to injury, the Padres needed a strong offensive performance from Machado to keep pace with the Dodgers and Giants. They've gotten that and then some. Machado has carried the Padres' lineup, which has struggled at times outside of their star third baseman. Machado has already scored 49 runs and driven in 46 runs in to go along with a .920 OPS, which ranks third in the National League among qualifiers.

CAREER ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Arenado: One of the National League's best all-around players for nearly a decade, Arenado finished in the top 10 in the MVP voting every year from 2015-19. Arenado's nine Gold Gloves are tied with his teammate, catcher Yadier Molina, for the most among active players. He has put up some gaudy offensive stats as well. Arenado led the National League in home runs, RBIs and total bases in back-to-back years (2015-16) and has four Silver Sluggers to his name.

Machado: With two Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger to his name, Machado has been one of the best two-way players of the last decade. He's finished in the top five of the MVP voting three times -- twice with the Orioles and in 2020 with the Padres. Last month, he became just the 17th player in AL/NL history to have reached 250 homers and 1,500 hits before turning 30.

ALL-STAR HISTORY

Arenado: This would be the seventh All-Star selection and fourth start for Arenado, who started last year's All-Star Game at third base. Arenado's best All-Star Game performance came in 2017, when he had a pair of singles in two at-bats. He would become the first Cardinal to star the All-Star game in back-to-back years since Carlos Beltrán in 2012-13.

Machado: A five-time All-Star, Machado has twice started the Midsummer Classic -- as a third baseman in 2016 and a shortstop in '18. He was one of five Padres who made the All-Star team last season, which was tied for the most in the Majors. In 2018, Machado had, perhaps, the most awkward All-Star experience when he was reportedly traded from the Orioles to the Dodgers in the days leading up to the game.

FUN FACTOR

Arenado: The Southern California native grew up an hours drive south of Dodger Stadium, if you're lucky enough to miss traffic, in Newport Beach. Arenado's nickname even comes from another SoCal resident -- Mickey Mouse. After tormenting the Dodgers for years in Colorado and St. Louis, its only fitting that Arenado gets an All-Star homecoming in L.A.

Machado: Looking for drama? Look no further than Machado in Dodger Stadium. There's been tension between the franchise and Machado since the star spurned Los Angeles for San Diego during the 2018 offseason. An All-Star Game start in enemy territory would add another layer to the beef between Machado and the Dodgers.
