Padres activate INF/OF Kyle Blanks from 15-day DL and option RHP Anthony Bass to Triple-A Tucson

The San Diego Padres today announced that they have activated infielder/outfielder Kyle Blanks from the 15-day disabled list and have optioned right-handed pitcher Anthony Bass to AAA Tucson. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Blanks, 26, played four games during his rehabilitation assignment, hitting .091 (1-for-11) with a run scored and a walk. He has hit .256 (56-for-219) with 13 doubles, eight home runs, 34 RBI, 26 runs scored, a .318 on-base percentage and a .425 slugging percentage in 67 games for the Padres this season. The right-handed hitter has set career-highs so far this season in nearly every offensive category including hits, doubles, RBI, runs scored and games played.   Over parts of five Major League seasons with the Padres (2009-13), he has hit .231 (149-for-644) with 35 doubles, two triples, 28 home runs, 97 RBI and 85 runs scored in 213 games played. In 12 games with Tucson this season is hitting .237 (9-for-38) with three doubles, one home runs and four RBI.

Bass, 25, appeared in two games since being recalled on August 26, tossing 1.2 shutout innings on Monday and allowing five runs last night against the Dodgers. Bass was in his third stint with the Padres, having made his second consecutive Opening Day roster for San Diego this season. The right-hander was previously recalled from Triple-A Tucson on June 22 and optioned back the following day. In 19 relief appearances for San Diego this season, he has posted a 5.11 ERA (21 ER, 37.0 IP) with 24 strikeouts against 15 walks. In 15 starts for Tucson this year, the right-hander has posted a 4-6 record with a 5.45 ERA (48 ER, 79.1 IP) and 60 strikeouts against 17 walks. Over his last five starts for Tucson, he has gone 2-2 with a 2.32 ERA (8 ER, 31.0 IP) and 22 strikeouts against six walks.
