Padres' Minor League season ends as Tri-City loses

Belen HR not enough for Dust Devils in Northwest League title game

The Padres' Minor League season came to an end Sunday night.

Hillsboro defeated the Padres' Tri-City affiliate, 6-1, to win the short-season Single-A Northwest League championship. Hillsboro had a 2-1 edge in the best-of-three League Championship Series.

Third baseman Carlos Belen (.182) homered for the Dust Devils' only run. Left fielder Henry Charles (.435) was 1-for-4, and catcher Austin Allen (.250) was 1-for-3 with a walk for Tri-City's only other hits.

Left-handed starting pitcher Jose Castillo gave up four runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings to take the loss.

Left-handed reliever Will Headean (0.00 earned run average in the playoffs) had four strikeouts in three perfect innings. Right-hander Luis Hernandez (0.00) allowed no runs on three hits with a strikeout over two innings. Right-hander Sam Holland (6.00) allowed two runs on a hit and a walk with a strikeout in two innings.
