Padres recall RHP Brad Brach and RHP Miles Mikolas from Tucson and option RHP Anthony Bass and RHP Brad Boxberger to Tucson

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced they have recalled right-handed pitchers Brad Brach and Miles Mikolas from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned right-handers Anthony Bass and Brad Boxberger to the same Tucson club. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Brach, 27, is making his second stint with the Padres, having made his second consecutive Opening Day roster for San Diego this season. The right-hander was optioned to Tucson on May 18 and has gone 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA (8 ER, 16.0 IP) with 16 strikeouts against six walks in 11 outings for the club's Triple-A affiliate. Over 19 relief appearances for San Diego this year, Brach has gone 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA (9 ER, 17.0 IP) and 17 strikeouts against eight walks.

Mikolas, 24, is making his first stint with the Padres this season. In 32 games for Tucson this year, he has gone 2-1 with 14 saves, a 3.57 ERA (14 ER, 35.1 IP) and 22 strikeouts against 12 walks. The right-hander made his Major League debut for the Padres last season, going 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA (13 ER, 32.1 IP) and 23 strikeouts against 15 walks in 25 relief appearances.  

Bass, 25, was recalled from Tucson yesterday for his second stint with the Padres this season and worked 2.0 scoreless innings in the club's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park. The right-hander was previously optioned to Tucson on May 30. In four starts for the club's Triple-A affiliate, he has gone 1-1 with a 9.18 ERA (17 ER, 16.2 IP) with 16 strikeouts against four walks. Over 19 relief outings for San Diego this year, Bass has posted a 4.28 ERA (16 ER, 33.2 IP) with 24 strikeouts against 13 walks.  

Boxberger, 25, was also recalled from Tucson yesterday for his third stint with the Padres this season. He worked 1.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits, a home run, and a walk while striking out two in the Padres game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park. The right-hander was recalled for a first time on May 2 and optioned back to Tucson on May 10 and recalled a second time on June 2 before being optioned back on June 8. In five relief appearances for San Diego, he has posted a 4.00 ERA (4 ER, 9.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts against two walks. Over 21 relief appearances for Tucson, he has gone 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA (15 ER, 28.1 IP) with 45 strikeouts against 12 walks.
