Padres reinstate LHP Eric Stults from 15-day disabled list; option RHP Nick Vincent to Triple-A Tucson

The San Diego Padres today announced they have reinstated left-handed pitcher Eric Stults from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Nick Vincent to Triple-A Tucson. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Stults, 32, was originally placed on the disabled list June 6 (retro to June 4) with a strained left lat. He has gone 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA (9 ER/24.1 IP) in four starts for the Padres this year. He made two starts for Triple-A Tucson as part of a rehab assignment, posting a 5.40 ERA (4 ER/6.2 IP).

The southpaw was claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on May 17. In six games (five starts) total this year between the White Sox and Padres, he has gone 1-2 with a 3.19 ERA (11 ER/31.0 IP).  Originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a 15th-round selection in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, he has gone 9-12 with a 4.64 ERA (97 ER/188.0 IP) in 47 games, 29 starts, over parts of six Major League seasons with the Dodgers (2006-09), Colorado Rockies (2011), White Sox (2012) and Padres (2012).

Vincent, 26, has made seven relief appearances with the Padres, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (4 ER/8.0 IP). He earned his first Major League win after 1.0 inning of work June 28 at Houston. In 21 games between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson this season, he has gone 2-1 with a 5.57 ERA (13 ER/21.0 IP) and 26 strikeouts against eight walks, including 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA (2 ER/9.2 IP) and 15 strikeouts against no walks and just four hits allowed in his nine outings for the Missions.
