Padres Reinstate RHP Tim Stauffer; Option LHP Josh Spence to Triple-A Tucson

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres today announced they have reinstated right-handed pitcher Tim Stauffer from the disabled list and optioned left-handed pitcher Josh Spence to Triple-A Tucson.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Stauffer, 29, began the season on the DL with a strained right elbow and will make his 2012 debut tonight in a start against the Nationals. He made three starts between Triple-A Tucson (one start) and Single-A Lake Elsinore (two starts) as part of a rehab assignment, combining to go 0-1 with a 1.72 ERA (3 ER/15.2 IP). Over parts of six Major League seasons with the Padres, he is 23-31 with a 3.92 ERA (190 ER/436.0 IP) in 95 outings (69 starts).

Spence, 24, has made 11 relief appearances for the Padres this season, going 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA (5 ER/10.1 IP). He made his Big League debut last season and has gone 0-3 with a 3.15 ERA (14 ER/40.0 IP) in 51 career relief outings.
