Triple-A El Paso - Infielder Carlos Asuaje

Asuaje's week was of course capped by Saturday's cycle. Asuaje went 4-for-5 on Saturday night with five RBIs and three runs scored and recorded his seventh double, second triple and first homer of the season. Since being optioned to the Chihuahuas by the Padres on May 20, the 26-year-old Asuaje, who is playing second and third at El Paso, has hit .333. He was 9-for-24 (.375) last week with two doubles, a triple, a home run, seven RBIs and six runs scored for a .444 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage for a 1.111 OPS.

Insider's Note: Carlos really competes at the dish. He has the ability to give the team a tough at-bat.

Double-A San Antonio - Right-handed starter Cal Quantrill

The Padres' first pick in the 2016 draft (eighth overall), Quantrill allowed one run on seven hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in his only start last week. But over his last five starts, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound, 23-year-old Quantrill is 4-0 while allowing six earned runs on 27 hits and four walks with 32 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings for a 1.78 earned run average and a 1.01 WHIP. This season , Quantrill is 6-3 with a 3.94 ERA in 14 starts with 72 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings with a 1.36 WHIP. He is ranked the No. 34 prospect in all the minors.

Insider's Note: Cal has the ability to strike outs batters when he needs it. He has some good weapons that can shut hitters down. 

Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore - Left-handed starter Adrian Morejon

The 19-year-old Cuban is ranked the No. 42 prospect in all the minor leagues. He is also the Pipeline's sixth-ranked left-handed pitching prospect throughout the minor leagues. He set a career-high with 12 strikeouts in his lone start this past week, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings. The six-foot, 165-pound Morejon, who was a member of the Padres' banner 2016 international signing class, is 4-4 with a 3.59 ERA in 11 starts this season with 66 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings with a 1.25 WHIP.

Insider's Note: Adrian has a predator's mind set. He knows his strengths and pitches to them. 

Single-A Fort Wayne - Left-handed starter MacKenzie Gore

After two rounds on the disabled this season due to blisters on his pitching hand, the 19-year-old, third overall pick in the 2017 draft, has allowed zero runs on one hit and a walk with eight strikeouts in five innings in two abbreviated starts since most recently returning on June 10. Gore is regarded as the minor league's top left-handed prospect as well as the Padres' No. 2 prospect and the No. 20 prospect in the minor leagues. The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder has 18 strikeouts over 13 innings for the season.  

Insider's Note: MacKenzie is super athletic on the mound. Excited to see him back healthy after a few blister issues to start the season. When he is good, his stuff is electric. 

Single-A Dominican Summer League - Right-handed starter Efrain Contreras

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound 18-year-old from Chihuahua, Mexico, allowed one run on five hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts in nine innings over two appearances last week. In four games thus far for the DSL Padres, Contreras has allowed one run on nine hits and two walks with 22 strikeouts in 14 innings for a 0.64 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. Officials at El Paso are already looking forward to having the first Chihuahua from the state of Chihuahua.  

Insiders' Note: Efrain is a native of Juarez, Mexico and a very hard worker. He attacks the zone and is off to a great start in the DSL.
