Triple-A El Paso - Right-handed starter Cal Quantrill

The Padres' first-round pick in the 2016 Draft (eighth overall) and their No. 10 prospect, made two, six-inning starts last week after being promoted to the Chihuahuas from Double-A San Antonio. He allowed 13 hits and three runs with one walk and 10 strikeouts for a 2.25 ERA and a 1.167 WHIP. He was 6-5 with a 5.15 ERA in 22 starts at Double-A.

Insider's Note: Cal has pitched extremely well since his promotion to El Paso. Both his changeup and slider are becoming very solid off-speed weapons.

Double-A San Antonio - Right-handed starter Jesse Scholtens

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound, 24-year-old was the Padres' ninth-round pick in the 2016 Draft. He made one start last week for the Missions and allowed one run on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts in eight innings while earning the win. Scholtens is 7-2 on the season with a 3.23 ERA in 15 games (14 starts).

Insider's Note: Jesse had one of the stronger offseasons of our pitchers in the system, and his hard work is paying off down the stretch.

Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore - Right-handed reliever David Bednar

It's not as much what the 35th-round pick did last week as what he continues to do. In three scoreless innings last week, Bednar allowed one hit and three walks against seven strikeouts. Over his last 10 appearances, he has allowed just one run on 15 hits and six walks with 25 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings for a 0.51 ERA.

Insider's Note: Both his curve ball and splitter have improved over the course of the year. David is a reliable reliever in the Lake Elsinore bullpen.

Single-A Fort Wayne - Left-handed starter Osvaldo Hernandez

The 6-foot, 175-pound, 20-year-old Cuban worked six scoreless innings in his lone start last week, allowing one hit and no walks with five strikeouts. Hernandez is 6-2 with a 1.34 ERA over his last 10 starts and is 10-4 on the season in 20 games (18 starts) with that league-leading 1.81 ERA.

Insider's Note: Osvaldo has a plus breaking ball and is a real competitor on the mound. He's putting on a big time performance in the Midwest League this year.

Short-Season Single-A Tri-City - Right-handed reliever Jordan Guerrero

A sixth-round draft pick in 2015, Guerrero has worked two scoreless outings since being named to the Northwest League All-Star Team. Over the regular season, Guerrero has a perfect 0.00 ERA for the Dust Devils with a 0.72 WHIP and a .123 opponents' batting average (seven hits, six walks, 23 strikeouts in 18 innings).

Insider's Note: Jordan has big velocity. His fastball really gets on hitters.

Single-A Dominican Summer League - Left-handed starter Manuel Partida

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound native of Tepic, Mexico, won't turn 18 until Sept. 25. Last week, he made two starts, giving up one run on six hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over a total of nine innings. Partida is 2-4 on the season with a 2.48 ERA in 12 games (11 starts). He has a 1.03 WHIP with 55 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings.

Insider's Note: Manuel is a big lefty with advanced feel for his plus changeup. He pounds the zone.

Arizona Rookie League - Infielder Lee Solomon

The 22-year-old Solomon was the Padres' 25th-round pick in this June's draft out of Lipscomb University. He was 8-for-17 last week with five doubles. He finished the week riding a seven-game hitting streak, going 15-for-29 with seven doubles, a triple, a home run, seven RBIs and seven runs scored for a slash line of .517/.517/.931/1.448.

Insider's Note: Lee plays all over the field and gives you really competitive at-bats every night.
