Bryce Harper is trying to carry the Phillies to the postseason, bad back and all.

He needs help, though.

Harper went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, one walk and one run scored in Friday night’s 6-4 loss to the Rays at Tropicana Field. After he hit two opposite-field home runs and was intentionally walked three times on Wednesday in a victory in Washington, he walked in the first inning and hit a Little League home run in the third inning to help the Phillies to a 3-1 lead.

Harper ripped the ball down the right-field line with two outs to score Alec Bohm from first base. It probably should have been a double, but Rays right fielder Brett Phillips had trouble picking up the ball, which allowed Harper to try for third. Harper slid headfirst into third as the throw from Rays shortstop Willy Adames got past third baseman Mike Brosseau.

Harper got up and scored.

Then, in the fifth, Harper hit a two-out single to right-center field to score Scott Kingery and make it 4-1.

It was Harper’s 10th consecutive plate appearance in which he reached base safely. He is the first Phillies player to do that since Jayson Werth reached base in 11 consecutive plate appearances from June 27-30, 2009.

Harper, who grounded out in the eighth to end the streak, has been bothered since late August by a bad back, but after his two-homer Wednesday as the designated hitter, manager Joe Girardi said he planned to have Harper serve as DH the entire weekend against the Rays.
