Phillies honor club icons before home opener

Widow of former manager Dallas Green threw out first pitch Friday

PHILADELPHIA -- Dallas Green's presence could not be missed Friday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies honored their late former manager, who died last month at age 82. The team offered moments of silence for Green, former Phillies player and scout Ruben Amaro Sr. and former MLB executive Katy Feeney, who each died recently.
The Phillies showed video of Green, who led the Phillies to their first World Series championship in 1980. Green's widow, Sylvia Green, threw out the first pitch to bench coach Larry Bowa.

The Phillies lost their home opener to the Nationals, 7-6, but they had plenty of pomp and circumstance beforehand. Like every year, the Phillies had the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Men's Chorale sing, state flags were carried onto the field by members of Philadelphia's police and fire departments and a gigantic American flag was unfurled in center field.
Phillies players and coaches entered the ballpark through Ashburn Alley in center field.
Kane Kalas, son of the late Harry Kalas, sang the national anthem.
