Despite All-Star numbers, Brown needs voting push

MILWAUKEE -- Domonic Brown keeps hitting home runs, but he isn't close in the voting for a spot on the National League All-Star team.

Major League Baseball on Sunday released its second voting update for the NL All-Star team. Brown is not among the top 15 outfielders, which means he has fewer than 556, 894 votes. Those are the votes Reds outfielder Jay Bruce, who sits 15th, has received.

Brown entered Saturday's game against the Brewers at Miller Park as the league leader in home runs, and he ranked third in total bases and fifth in RBIs and slugging percentage.

The only Phillies player ranked among the top vote-getters at his position was second baseman Chase Utley, but he fell from third to fourth.

Utley has 774,314 votes, which puts him well behind Red second baseman Brandon Phillips, who leads with 1,541,720 votes.

It's almost certain that neither Brown nor Utley will be elected a starter, but if Brown continues to rake he is a lock to make the team as a reserve.

Fans can vote for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- online or via mobile device -- using the 2013 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot until July 4, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Fans can submit 25 online ballots during the voting period, but also can earn a one-time bonus of 10 additional online ballots. To access these additional online ballots, you must be logged into your MLB.com account when you submit any online ballot. Fans also can participate in the Home Run Derby Fan Poll. Fans have the opportunity to select three players in each league who they would like to see participate in the Home Run Derby. The 2013 Home Run Derby -- part of Gatorade All-Star Workout Day -- will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio in the United States beginning at 8 p.m. ET on July 15.

The 2013 AL and NL All-Star teams will be unveiled July 7 on the 2013 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show, televised nationally on TBS. Baseball fans around the world then will be able to select the final player on each team via the All-Star Game Final Vote sponsored by freecreditscore.com on MLB.com.

The final phase of All-Star Game voting again will have fans participating in the official voting for the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. During the Midsummer Classic, fans will vote exclusively online at MLB.com via the 2013 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote, and their voice will represent 20 percent of the official vote determining the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy.
