Williams bloodied but OK after ball hits face

Phillies right fielder hit in face by carom off fence in 8th inning

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies right fielder took a ball off his face in the eighth inning Monday night at Citizens Bank Park. He left the game.
"He's fine," Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said after a 6-5 win over the Cardinals in 10 innings. "I saw him after the game. He had a bloody nose. When I went out there to look at him, blood was coming out of his nose and it was the right time to make that switch. I don't want to put anybody at risk."
Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter hit a fly ball toward the right-field wall with a runner on first and one out. Williams pursued, but the ball hit high on the wall and ricocheted directly onto his face.
took his place in right field and hit a walk-off two-run double in the 10th to send the Phillies home winners.
