The Phillies have acquired left-hander Aaron Loup from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-hander Jacob Waguespack.
Loup, 30, has made 50 relief appearances for the Blue Jays this season, posting a 4.54 ERA (18 ER, 35.2 IP) and averaging 10.60 SO/9.0 IP (42 SO). He entered play today tied for the sixth-most appearances among American League relievers.
Now in his seventh major league season, Loup has made 369 career relief appearances (all for Toronto), going 12-20 with six saves and a 3.47 ERA (123 ER, 318.2 IP). Additionally, he has held left-handers to a .231 batting average and .299 on-base percentage during his career.
Waguespack, 24, was originally signed by the Phillies as a non-drafted free agent in 2015. He appeared in 21 combined games (15 starts) for double-A Reading and triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, going 4-6 with a 4.68 ERA.
To make room on the 40-man roster, infielder Trevor Plouffe was designated for assignment.
