The Phillies have acquired catcher Wilson Ramos and cash considerations from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The 30-year-old Ramos is batting .297 with 14 doubles, 14 home runs, 53 RBI and an .834 OPS in 78 games this season, and was named to his second career All-Star team earlier this month. He is second among all major league catchers in batting average and RBI, and tied for second in home runs.
A native of Valencia, Venezuela, Ramos is a .271 career hitter with 108 home runs, reaching double-digit figures in each of the last six seasons and seven of his last eight. This season marks his ninth in the majors, having spent time with the Minnesota Twins (2010), Washington Nationals (2010-16) and Rays (2017-18). He was originally signed by the Twins as an amateur free agent in July of 2004.
Ramos is currently on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, left-hander Zac Curtis was designated for assignment.
