The Phillies have signed the following three players to Minor League contracts with invitations to attend Major League Spring Training as non-roster invitees:
•   Gift Ngoepe, INF - Ngoepe, who turns 29 on Jan. 18, spent most of 2018 with triple-A Buffalo in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, appearing at shortstop, second base and third base over 48 games with the club. He batted .168 with three doubles, two home runs, eight RBI and 25 walks. Ngoepe, who also appeared in 13 games with the Blue Jays during the 2018 season, has played in 41 major league games with the Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates (2017), making no errors in 206.0 innings in the field while batting .181 in 72 at-bats. Originally from South Africa, Ngoepe became the first native of continental Africa to appear in a major league game. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an amateur free agent in 2008.
•   Edward Paredes, LHP - The 32-year-old reliever went 3-2 with a 3.79 ERA, two saves and 41 strikeouts in 35.2 innings with triple-A Oklahoma City in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 2018. He also appeared in 15 games for the Dodgers (7.2 IP), holding opponents scoreless in his first 10 outings. In 10 minor league seasons, Paredes has posted a 4.28 ERA in 324 appearances (46 starts), and since 2017 has appeared in 25 major league games with the Dodgers, going 3-0 with a 4.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. Paredes, a Dominican Republic native, was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as an amateur free agent in 2005.
•   Andrew Romine, INF - A veteran of parts of nine major league seasons, Romine has appeared at all nine positions in his career, playing in more than 40 games each at shortstop (188), third base (160), second base (87), first base (75) and center field (48). The 33-year-old is a career .235 hitter with 38 doubles, 10 home runs, 81 RBI and 40 stolen bases for the Los Angeles Angels (2010-13), Detroit Tigers (2014-17) and Seattle Mariners (2018). He batted .210 in 72 games for the Mariners last season. Romine was originally selected by the Angels in the fifth round of the 2007 draft out of Arizona State University.
Additionally, the Phillies have extended invitations to the following eight internal players to attend Major League Spring Training:
•   Malquin Canelo, INF - Canelo, 24, spent the entire 2018 season with double-A Reading, batting .251 with 15 doubles, six triples, nine home runs and 24 stolen bases in 128 games. A native of the Dominican Republic, Canelo has batted .244 with 108 doubles, 20 triples, 29 home runs and 90 stolen bases across seven minor league seasons. He was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent in April of 2012.
•   Tyler Gilbert, LHP - A 25-year-old California native, Gilbert pitched in 48 games in 2018 between Reading and triple-A Lehigh Valley, all in relief. He went 7-2 with a 3.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 69 strikeouts in 69.1 innings, while holding opponents to a .211 batting average. He has posted a 3.44 ERA in 116 minor league appearances (32 starts) over four seasons. Gilbert was selected by the Phillies in the sixth round of the June 2015 draft.
•   Deivi Grullón, C - Grullón, 22, batted .273 with a .515 slugging percentage in 2018, collecting 14 doubles and 21 home runs in 90 games with Reading. His 21 home runs were tied for the fourth-most in the Eastern League. Grullón caught 28 of 85 attempted base stealers (32.9 %) in 87 games at catcher. Originally signed by Philadelphia as an amateur free agent in July of 2012, the Dominican Republic native has batted .247 with 92 doubles, 49 home runs and 231 RBI in six minor league seasons.
•   Adam Haseley, OF - Selected by Baseball America as the Phillies' No. 5 prospect heading into 2019, the left-handed-hitting Haseley was a .305 hitter with 17 doubles, 11 home runs, 55 RBI, 77 runs scored and a .361 on-base percentage between single-A Clearwater and Reading last season. The 22-year-old native of Orlando, Fla., has batted .298 with a .360 on-base percentage in his first two professional seasons, recording 203 hits in 176 games. Haseley was selected by the Phillies in the first round (8th overall) of the June 2017 draft out of the University of Virginia.
•   Cole Irvin, LHP - The 24-year-old southpaw spent 2018 with Lehigh Valley, where he led the International League in ERA (2.57), WHIP (1.05) and wins (14), was second in innings (161.1), third in strikeouts (131) and tied for fourth in starts (25). He was selected as the league's Most Valuable Pitcher. Irvin, a fifth-round selection by the Phillies in the June 2016 draft, has a 2.84 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 286 strikeouts in 61 minor league games (56 starts). This is Irvin's second straight year in major league camp.
•   Austin Listi, INF/OF - Listi, the Phillies 2018 recipient of the Paul Owens Award for the organization's top minor league position player, combined to bat .312 with 25 doubles, 18 home runs, 84 RBI, 62 walks, a .412 on-base percentage and .502 slugging percentage between Clearwater and Reading last season. He was the first Phillies minor leaguer in 11 years to slash at least .310/.410/.500 in at least 500 plate appearances. In his first two professional seasons after being selected by the Phillies in the 17th round of the 2017 draft, the 25-year-old has batted .296 with a .383 on-base percentage and 65 extra-base hits in 176 games.
•   Mickey Moniak, OF - Moniak, 20, played the 2018 season with Clearwater, batting .270 with 28 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 50 runs scored in 114 games. He played 110 of those games in center field, recording six outfield assists while making just one error. The first overall selection by Philadelphia in the June 2016 draft, Moniak has batted .258 with 61 doubles, 13 triples and 127 RBI over his first three professional seasons.
JoJo Romero, LHP - Romero, a 22-year-old left-hander, made 18 starts for Reading in 2018, going 7-6 with a 3.80 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 106.2 innings. In three minor league seasons, the Camarillo, Calif., native has posted a 2.85 ERA in 51 starts, surrendering only 245 hits in 281.1 innings. He was selected by the Phillies in the fourth round of the June 2016 draft.
