Revere hits first big league homer in 1,466 at-bats

PHILADELPHIA -- It took 1,466 career at-bats, but Ben Revere has finally rounded the bases.

The Phillies center fielder laced a 1-1 fastball from Boone Logan over the scoreboard in right field in the seventh inning of Tuesday night's 6-2 loss to the Rockies for his first Major League homer.

"Definitely good getting that monkey off your back," Revere said. "My game is mainly hit line drives and hit the ball on the ground. I get in a lot of trouble when I hit the ball in the air. We were hoping we would win the game, but it was a good feeling."

Revere's home run drought marked the longest stretch to start a big league career since Frank Taveras went 1,594 at-bats from 1972-77.

"When I got to second base, I didn't know what to do, especially when I got to third," Revere said. "It's past me. I'll try and get 400 more."
