Pitcher - RHP, David Buchanan, Lehigh Valley… 1 start… 1-0, 0.00 ERA (7.0 IP), 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO… The 24-year-old Buchanan was selected by the Phillies in the 7th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and signed by Ellis Dungan.
Player - SS, J.P. Crawford, GCL Phillies… 7 G… Batted .417 (10-24), 6 R, 2B, HR, 7 RBI, 5 BB… The 14th overall selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Crawford leads the GCL in batting (.377 AVG) and OBP (.469)…21 BB to only 19 SO on the season…Crawford earns POTW honors for the 1st time.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…63-60, 4th place… 4-3 for the week… LV finished the week strong, taking the first 3 G of a 4 G set at Gwinnett… INF Pete Orr has hit safely in 11 consecutive games and is batting .413 (16-46) in that span… 1B Cody Overbeck saw his career-best 18 G hitting streak come to an end on 8/10 vs GWI… Overbeck has hit safely in 19 of his last 20 G (.351, 27-77 during that span)… For the week Overbeck hit .346 (9-26),with 3 2B & 2 HR, bringing his season home run total to 19… C Cameron Rupp hit .278 including 3 2B and has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 G (.350 AVG)… OF Leandro Castro swiped his 17th SB of the season while hitting .296 (8-26) for the week… RHP David Buchanan made only the 2nd start of his triple-A career going 7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, SO… Buchanan is now 2-0, 1.29 ERA (2 ER, 14.0 IP) with only 1 BB in his first 2 starts with LV since being promoted from Reading (AA)… RHP Tyler Cloyd tossed his 1st CG of the season on 8/8 vs CHA but took the loss after giving up 3 R in 8.0 IP with 4 SO… Cloyd, who took home honors last season as the IL Pitcher of the Year, has regained that same form over his last 6 starts going 3-1 with a 1.42 ERA (6 ER, 38.0 IP) in that span (since 7/9)…. A majority of the LV bullpen pitched excellent this week as RHP J.C. Ramirez (5.2 IP, 0 R), RHP Phillippe Aumont (3.0 IP, 0 R), RHP Justin Friend (3.0 IP, 0 R), LHP Mauricio Robles (4.0 IP, 0 R), LHP Jay Johnson (2.0 IP, 0 R) & RHP B.J. Rosenberg (2 SV, 3.0 IP, 1 R) combined for a 0.44 ERA (1 ER, 20.2 IP) in relief this week.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…41-68, 6th place… 3-3 for the week… 3B Maikel Franco batted .320 (8-25), 2B, HR, 4 RBI… Franco went 3-for-5, 2 R, HR (Grand Slam), 4 RBI in REA's win over New Britain on Sunday… Franco leads all of MiLB with 254 total bases this season… OF Kelly Dugan had 6 H on the week which included a 2B and 2 HR… With time split between Clearwater (A) and REA this season, Dugan is hitting .302 with 54 R, 16 HR, 50 RBI and a .371 OBP… INF/OF Albert Cartwright swiped 2 bases bringing his total to a club-best 22 on the season… Cartwright also leads REA in triples (5) and runs scored (68)… LHP Mario Hollands made 2 starts going 1-0 with 15 SO in 11.1 IP… On the season Hollands is 7-2, 2.49 ERA (30 ER, 108.1 IP) with 97 SO between CLR and REA… LHP Jesse Biddle allowed 3 H in 6.0 scoreless innings… RHP Mike Nesseth threw 3.1 scoreless innings while picking up his 8th SV… RHP Hector Neris appeared in 3 G and allowed just 2 H, 0 R in 4.0 IP while totaling 6 SO… RHP Tyler Knigge picked up a W in 3.0 scoreless IP.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…First Half - 35-33, 4th place… Second Half - 21-24, 3rd place… 2-2 for the week… 1B Brock Stassi hit .438 (7-16), 2 2B, SB… Stassi is batting .296 on the year… C Logan Moore batted .400 (4-10) with 2 2B… 1B/3B Harold Martinez batted .313 (5-16)… OF Aaron Altherr hit his FSL leading 32nd 2B of the season… RHP Severino Gonzalez earned a ND in his only start going 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 SO… Gonzalez has a 1.83 ERA in 78.2 IP (16 ER) this season with 92 SO to only 16 BB… RHP Colton Murray picked up a W in 3.2 scoreless innings of work while totaling 4 SO… RHP Daniel Child, a 6-foot-5 selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft threw 2.1 scoreless innings… Child has yet to allow a R in his first 4 G with CLR.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League North Division - First Half-26-41, 7th place… Second Half - 20-30, T-5th place… 2-5 for the week… DH Willie Carmona batted .346 (9-26), 4 BB, 2 2B… Carmona is batting .303 on the season and leads LWD with 118 base hits… 1B Art Charles had 8 H, 3 of which were 2B… Charles has 31 2B's this season which rank 4th in the SAL… SS Angelo Mora batted .300 on the week (6-20), 2B, SB… RHP Jeb Stefan allowed only 1 H in 6.0 IP in his sole start of the week… Recently signed LHP Ryan Demmin made his LWD debut and totaled 8.0 IP with 9 SO while only allowing 2 unearned runs… Demmin was signed out of the Frontier League where he was selected an All-Star this season… RHP Chris Nichols allowed only 2 H in 4.0 scoreless IP… 2013 Draft Pick RHP Lee Ridenhour picked up his first SV with LWD.
Williamsport CrossCutters - New York Penn League Pinckney Division - 25-27, 4th place… 1-5 for the week… Six different Cutters combined to pound out 8 HR this week for WIL, accounting for a majority of the clubs 20 runs scored this week… 3B Zach Green continues to swing the bat well, he leads the NYPL in HR (10), 2B (18) and total bases (101)… Green batted .333 (8-24) with 2 2B & 2 HR this week… 2B Andrew Pullin had 3 triples this week and batted .318 (7-22) with a HR… OF Jiandido Tromp batted .353 (6-17), 2B, HR… 2013 2nd round selection C Andrew Knapp hit 2 HR to go with a 2B in 4 G this week… OF Dylan Cozens belted his 6th HR this season… 1B Logan Pierce hit his 4th HR of the year… RHP Mitch Gueller came back strong after a few rough outings with 6.0 scoreless innings in his only start (2 H, 6 SO)… RHP Felix Santos came out of the pen for 4.0 scoreless innings of relief… RHP Yackisel Rios earned the W in the sole victory for WIL this week… RHP Kelvi Rojas struck out 5 of the 6 batters he retired in his 2.0 IP this week… This season Rojas has a 1.42 ERA (3 ER, 19.0 IP) with 27 SO spanning 14 appearances.
Gulf Coast League Phillies - 20-23, 3rd place… 5-3 for the week… SS J.P. Crawford earned Player of the Week honors for his efforts this week where he batted .417 (10-24), 2B, HR (first professional), 7 RBI, 5 BB… Crawford leads the GCL in batting (.377) & OBP (.469)… Crawford has 21 BB on the season to only 19 SO and has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games (.429, 18-42)… 1B Wilmer Oberto batted .308 (8-26), 2 HR, 8 RBI… Oberto leads the GCL with 6 HR and 40 RBI (next closest RBI total is 28) in only 35 G this season… OF Herlis Rodriguez backed up his Player of the Week honors from last week by hitting .304 (7-23)… In his 27 G this season Rodriguez sports a .393 AVG/.436 OBP/.539 SLG… INF Jair Morelos batted .450 (9-20), 2 2B and is hitting .321 this season… OF Venn Bitter is hitting .409 over his first 8 G as professional as he batted .462 (6-13) this week… C Deivi Grullon batted .429 (6-14), 3 BB… OF Cord Sandberg, Jose Pujols & Nick Ferdinand as well as 2B Robinson Torres & SS Jan Hernandez all belted HR this week… RHP Mark Leiter threw 3.0 scoreless innings while allowing just 1 H as he picked up his first professional win… Prior to his promotion to CLR, Leiter posted a 1.57 ERA (4 ER, 23.0 IP) with 26 SO in his first 11 appearances as a professional… RHP Feliberto Sanchez made 1 start going 6.0 innings while allowing just 1 hit… LHP Cody Forsythe picked up his 3rd W of the season in relief as he appeared in 2 G and totaled 4.0 scoreless innings… RHP Will Morris picked up his 1st SV as a professional.
