PIRATES CHARITIES GOLF CLASSIC
The 13th annual Pirates Charities Golf Classic, presented by Rivendale Farms, took place on May 21 at the Fox Chapel Golf Club. Participants had the opportunity to spend the day with current and former Pirates -- such as Steve Blass, Elroy Face, Adam Frazier, Bill Mazeroski and Kent Tekulve -- as well as Pirates broadcasters and front office executives. More than $165,000 was raised to support Pirates Charities.
ALS ASSOCIATION CEO SOAK
On August 2, Pirates President Frank Coonelly participated in the ALS Association's CEO Soak, a one-of-a-kind event where employees of local companies raise money for the opportunity to see their boss get "soaked" in the outdoor water feature at PPG Place. Proceeds benefited the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the ALS Association, which provides services and education to people living with ALS, and their loved ones, in 31 Central and Western Pennsylvania counties.
PIRATES CHARITIES SPORTING CLAYS INVITATIONAL
The 11th annual Pirates Charities Sporting Clays Invitational took place on August 23 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. More than 130 participants spent the day with a Pirates contingent that included Chairman Bob Nutting, President Frank Coonelly, General Manager Neal Huntington, Manager Clint Hurdle, and current players such as Elias Diaz, Corey Dickerson, Jordy Mercer, Ivan Nova and Trevor Williams. Everyone enjoyed competing in the precision sport of sporting clays at the scenic and challenging Seven Springs course, as more than $98,000 was raised to support Pirates Charities.
PONY LEAGUE WORLD SERIES
The Pirates continued their involvement with the PONY League World Series this year. On August 9, the Pirate Parrot and members of the Bucco Brigade were on hand for the Fanfest Kickoff Event at Dick's Sporting Goods in Washington, PA. Joe Klimchak, the voice of PNC Park, emceed and former Pirates pitcher Grant Jackson greeted fans and signed autographs. August 12 was Pirates Day at Lew Hays PONY Field during PONY League World Series competition. Pirates President Frank Coonelly addressed the crowd and threw out a ceremonial first pitch alongside Pirates alums Jackson, Omar Moreno and Chris Peters.
