LATINO AND HISPANIC INITIATIVES

2017 Recap: To celebrate the life and legacy of Roberto Clemente, the Pirates packed five CARE-a-vans with players, coaches, alumni and the Clemente Family, and spent the morning of September 6 serving five different communities throughout the city of Pittsburgh - Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) Latino Family Center, Light of Life Rescue Mission, VA Hospital, Westinghouse High School and Dick's Sporting Goods Shopping Event.

The celebration continued that evening as the Pirates, the Pittsburgh Latin American Cultural Union and Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted Pirates Fiesta in PNC Park's Picnic Park (for more details, please contact alexandra.layman@pirates.com). Following the Fiesta, the Pirates hosted a special on-field presentation that united Pirates Spanish-speaking players, coaches and staff with Latino Pittsburgh youth - AIU Latino Family Center, Iglesia Cristiana Hispana and Perry Hilltop Citizens Council - to celebrate their cultural pride.
