Bedard scratched from next scheduled start

In View Full Game Coverage a move that is not surprising, Erik Bedard has been scratched from his next scheduled start, which had been set for Monday against the Marlins in Miami.

Brad Lincoln will move into the rotation and start in Bedard's place against Miami. Bedard left his most recent start this past Wednesday due to back spasms.

Manager Clint Hurdle made the decision after talking to both Bedard and the training staff. Bedard has been taking muscle relaxants and getting other treatment.

Bedard is tentatively slated to start on Wednesday in the opener of a two-game series against the Nationals.

What this means in the short term is that Lincoln was not available out of the bullpen for Saturday or Sunday's games against the Astros. The Bucs had Daniel McCutchen available for any needed long-relief assignment on Saturday, though he wasn't needed in the Pirates 5-2 win over Houston.

McCutchen was added to the roster when Joel Hanrahan went on the Bereavement List on Friday.

Hanrahan, whose grandmother passed away, is due back in town Saturday night, and he is expected to be activated for Sunday's game.
