ates center fielder Andrew McCutchen's continued assault on opposing pitchers last month garnered the recently named All-Star his first career Budweiser Presents National League Player of the Month honor for June.
McCutchen hit .370 (40-for-108) with seven home runs, 26 RBIs and four stolen bases. The 40 hits were the most by any player in the NL, while his RBI total was second highest and the seven home runs were the third most. He also tallied 73 total bases, tied with Robinson Cano for the most in the Majors.
Not even facing a new batch of pitchers could slow down McCutchen, as he hit .368 (21-for-57) with four doubles, three homers and 12 RBIs in 15 games against the American League during Interleague Play for June 8-24.
Entering play Monday, McCutchen ranks first among all NL center fielders with his .346 batting average, 15 home runs and 51 RBIs.
McCutchen is the first Pirates player to win the monthly award since Jason Bay nabbed the honor in May 2006.
