Pirates acquire pitcher Buddy Boshers off a trade waiver claim from Houston

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired left-handed pitcher Buddy Boshers off a trade waiver claim from the Houston Astros.

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired left-handed pitcher Buddy Boshers (pronounced "bo-SHEERS") off a trade waiver claim from the Houston Astros. Boshers will be optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.    
The 30-year-old Boshers went 2-1 with four saves, a 3.18 ERA (51.0ip/18er), 55 strikeouts and 15 walks in 41 appearances this season with Triple-A Fresno. He entered today ranked second among Pacific Coast League relievers in fewest walks per 9.0 innings (2.29) and fifth in fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings (11.29). He also limited right-handed hitters to a .204 batting average against (21-for-103). 
Boshers has gone 3-0 with a 4.59 ERA (86.1ip/44er) in 100 appearances in the big leagues with the Angels (2013) and Twins (2016-17). Last year he had four separate stints with Minnesota and went 1-0 with a 4.89 ERA in a career-high 38 appearances. He also limited left-handed hitters to a .224 batting average against (13-for-58) in 2017 while pitching with Minnesota.  
To clear a space for Boshers on the 40-man roster, infielder/outfielder Christopher Bostick has been designated for assignment.
