Pirates going with 11 pitchers on NLDS roster

ST. LOUIS -- The addition of two starting pitchers for the National League Division Series knocked catcher Tony Sanchez and outfielder Travis Snider off the Pirates' 25-man roster that will take on the St. Louis Cardinals.

The club announced its active roster prior to Thursday night's Game 1 of the NLDS at 5 p.m. ET at Busch Stadium.

A.J. Burnett, the starter in Game 1, and Charlie Morton, who is pencilled in to go in Game 4 if needed, were added to the roster after the Bucs had gone with a nine-man pitching staff in the NL Wild Card Game.

A breakdown of the Pirates' roster -- which will be subject to revision if the club advances to the NL Championship Series:

Rotation (4): Francisco Liriano, Gerrit Cole, Morton, Burnett.

Bullpen (7): Jeanmar Gomez, Vin Mazzaro, Bryan Morris, Justin Wilson, Tony Watson, Mark Melancon, Jason Grilli.

Catchers (2): Russell Martin, John Buck.

Infielders (8): Pedro Alvarez, Clint Barmes, Jordy Mercer, Neil Walker, Justin Morneau, Gaby Sanchez, Garrett Jones, Josh Harrison.

Outfielders (4): Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen, Marlon Byrd, Jose Tabata
