Pirates Announce 2022 Spring Training Schedule

The Pittsburgh Pirates today released their spring training schedule for the 2022 Grapefruit League season. The Pirates are scheduled to play a total of 34 games, 17 of which will be at home at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Fla.

Opening Day of the Pirates Grapefruit League season will be on Saturday, February 26, as the team hosts the Tampa Bay Rays. The Bucs will then have a split squad day on Sunday, February 27, hosting the Detroit Tigers for the first of two times next spring while also traveling to North Port to play the Braves for the first of five matchups during the 2022 Grapefruit League campaign.

Additional highlights of the 2022 Spring Training schedule include:

  • March 5: The Pirates will host the New York Yankees for the only time before traveling to Tampa one week later to face the Yankees in their only trip to George M. Steinbrenner Field.
  • March 15-16: The Pirates will travel to the east coast to face the New York Mets on March 15 followed by the Miami Marlins on March 16. It will be the first time the Pirates and Mets face each other in a spring training game since playing two exhibition games against each other at PNC Park in 2001.
  • March 17: The Pirates will host the Twins on St. Patrick’s Day.
  • March 26: The Pirates will host the Tigers in the final Saturday home game of the Grapefruit League season.
  • March 29: The Pirates close out the Grapefruit League season against the Atlanta Braves at LECOM Park.
