A's place Blackburn on DL; recall Brady and Canha from Nashville

He started on Tuesday at Baltimore and had tossed 4.0 scoreless innings when he was hit on the hand by a Trey Mancini comebacker to lead off the fifth inning.

The Oakland A's placed right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 23 with a right hand contusion, the club announced today. The A's also recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Brady and outfielder Mark Canha from Triple-A Nashville.
Blackburn was recalled from Nashville on July 1 and is 3-1 with 3.22 ERA in 10 starts with Oakland in his Major League debut. He started on Tuesday at Baltimore and had tossed 4.0 scoreless innings when he was hit on the hand by a Trey Mancini comebacker to lead off the fifth inning. Blackburn is 2-0 with a 4.38 ERA and .315 opponents batting average over his last five starts with the A's after going 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA and .212 opponents average over his first five starts.
Brady joins the A's for the fourth time this year and is 0-0 with a 4.56 ERA and .270 opponents batting average in 10 relief appearances over his first three stints with Oakland. He was recalled most recently on Aug. 11 and logged a 5.68 ERA in two appearances on Aug. 12 and 21, both against Baltimore, before he was optioned to Nashville on Wednesday. The 30-year-old right-hander is 3-1 with a 3.21 ERA in 17 games, including eight starts, with the Sounds.
Canha returns to Oakland for his fourth stint and is batting .210 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 34 games. He went 5-for-16 (.313) with a home run and three RBI in five games during his most recent stay from Aug. 2 to 10. The 28-year-old right-handed hitter went 12-for-32 (.375) with six walks and four RBI in nine games with Nashville following his Aug. 11 option and is batting .283 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI in 75 games overall with the Sounds. Canha has appeared in 15 games in right field, 12 in left field, seven in center field and two at first base with Oakland and 61 games in right field, eight in center field and three in left field with Nashville. He takes the roster spot of Rajai Davis, who was traded to Boston on Wednesday.
