The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Brady and outfielder Boog Powell from Triple-A Nashville and optioned outfielders Jaycob Brugman and Mark Canha to Nashville, the club announced today.
Powell was acquired from Seattle on Sunday for Yonder Alonso and was assigned to Triple-A Nashville. The Sounds were at Tacoma at the time of the trade and he went 4-for-16 (.250) with a double and a walk in three games against his former teammates. He is batting .333 with six home runs, 33 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 61 games overall at Triple-A. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter made his Major League debut with Seattle earlier this year and hit .194 with two RBI in 23 games over three stints with the Mariners. Powell played eight games in left field and one in right field with Seattle and has appeared in 26 games in center field, 25 in right field and 10 in left field with Tacoma and Nashville.
Brady joins the A's for the third time in 2017 and has a 4.15 ERA in eight relief appearances over his first two stints. He pitched just once during his second stay, which lasted two days from July 31 to Aug. 1, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in 6.0 innings of relief on Aug. 1 against San Francisco. The 30-year-old right-hander made one start with Nashville following his most recent option and had a no decision in a 6-3 Sounds win at Tacoma on Tuesday (5.0 ip, 5 h, 1 r, 1 er, 0 bb, 4 so). Brady is 3-1 with a 3.21 ERA and .222 opponents batting average in 17 games, including eight starts, overall with the Sounds.
Brugman was recalled from Nashville June 9 and hit .266 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 48 games in his Major League debut. He was 3-for-17 (.176) in August but was batting .338 over his last 24 games after hitting .205 over his first 24 contests. Brugman is hitting .288 with a home run and eight RBI in 33 games with the Sounds.
