The Oakland A's reinstated right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's transferred right-handed pitcher Bobby Wahl to the 60-day DL.
Bassitt began the season on the disabled list as he continued his recovery from May 6, 2016 UCL reconstruction surgery on his right elbow. He began a rehab assignment on April 29 and made five appearances before his assignment was halted May 24. His rehab resumed June 28 with another eight appearances. Bassitt combined for a 1-2 record and a 5.46 ERA in 13 games, including nine starts, with Single-A Stockton and Triple-A Nashville. He walked 12 and struck out 26 in 31.1 innings while allowing a .254 batting average.
Wahl began the season at Nashville and was 0-1 with three saves and a 1.93 ERA in eight relief appearances when he was recalled by Oakland May 3. He logged a 4.70 ERA in seven relief appearances in his Major League debut before going on the disabled list May 24 with a strained right shoulder. Wahl began a rehab assignment with Stockton last Thursday and has not allowed a run in two appearances (2.0 ip, 3 bb, 6 so).
