RHP J.B. Wendelken recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher J.B. Wendelken from Triple-A Las Vegas. To make room on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn has been optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Wendelken, 26, has served two stints with the A’s this season, going 1-1 with 4.94 ERA (13 er in 23.2 ip) in 20 games. With Las Vegas, he is 4-1 with a 5.75 ERA (13 er in 20.1 ip) and a .220 opponents batting average in 20 games. He has not allowed a run in his last five outings for the Aviators (6.1 ip), dating back to June 13. For his career, Wendelken is 1-1 with a 4.75 ERA (28 er in 53.0 ip) in 41 games at the Major League level, all with the Athletics (2016-present).

Blackburn, 25, was recalled yesterday and spent one day with the club before being optioned back to Las Vegas. He served as the 26th man for the A’s doubleheader on June 8 at Texas, allowing five runs in 3.0 innings. With Las Vegas, he was named a Pacific Coast League All Star and is 7-1 with a 5.26 ERA (46 ER, 78.2 IP) with 60 strikeouts in 15 starts for the Aviators. For his career, Blackburn is 5-5 with a 4.84 ERA in 17 starts at the Major League level over parts of three seasons with Oakland (2017-present).
