The Atlanta Braves will host their second annual Los Bravos Weekend on Sept. 13-16, a four-day celebration with an array of events and efforts to spotlight the contributions by the Hispanic and Latino community.
"Los Bravos is an integral program to our organization," said Adrian Williams, senior director of diversity and community marketing. "This year with the help of our partners, we've extended the weekend to expand our reach and strengthen our relationship in the Hispanic and Latino communities."
To start the weekend, the Braves have partnered with the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to host their Inaugural 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia event on Thursday, September 13 at SunTrust Park. The event will honor the achievements of individuals from different categories within government, media, business, nonprofits and other business sectors. Former Brave and Venezuelan, Eddie Perez, is one of the Latinos being honored at this event.
On September 14, the Braves will host the Business of Baseball and Sports in Atlanta presented by SunTrust, an exclusive event for Latin-owned businesses to talk and learn about procurement opportunities in the sports industry. That evening, Braves players and coaches will wear customized #PonleAcento, which translated means "put the accent on it," shirts for batting practice to highlight the distinctive mark that Hispanic and Latino players and fans leave on the game.
The Braves and MLBPA will host over 75 youth ages 8-14 for a Los Bravos Youth Clinic presented by Mizuno at Cross Keys High School on Saturday morning. The kids will have an opportunity to learn fundamental baseball skills from former Braves Terry Harper, Cristhian Martínez, Dennis Martínez, Alejandro Peña and Marty Perez.
The weekend will conclude on Sunday with Los Bravos Day presented by Georgia Power. The day will be a cultural immersion at SunTrust Park. On the field, the Braves will wear their commemorative Los Bravos jerseys against the Washington Nationals and there will be a pregame flag presentation featuring the Latin players home countries prior to the first pitch and the starting lineups will be introduced in Spanish.
Prior to the game, the Latin band The Atlanta Show will perform within the Plaza and the bridge will be decorated with flags representing Latin countries. As part of our traditional Alumni Sundays, former Braves players Andruw Jones (Curaçao), Pedro Borbón Jr. (Dominican Republic) and Dennis Martínez (Nicaragua) will be signing autographs for those with a game ticket starting at 11:30 a.m. in Georgia Pavilion while Telemundo will host a Facebook Livestream pregame show on the Los Bravos page (Facebook.com/bravosATL) from 12:30-1 p.m.
Delaware North has created several customized menu items for the weekend, including mofongo with glazed pork belly at First & Third.
