CHICAGO – Starting Friday, May 3, Cubs Charities will kick off a month of giving with more than 30 events taking place throughout Chicago communities, involving Cubs players and Cubs associates. The month of giving will celebrate Cubs Charities’ reach and impact across the city through its Diamond Project, which provides baseball and softball opportunities for children and youth by engaging them with skilled coaches and quality programming and providing safe and accessible places to play the game.

Throughout the month, Cubs Charities also will announce its next class of Cubs Scholars (eight total scholars), a program offering quality mentorship and scholarships for Chicago-area high school students, coupled with college preparatory and persistence programming.

The month of giving officially starts Friday, May 3, with a Cubs Scholars surprise at a local high school, followed by the Archer Park Diamond Project ribbon-cutting ceremony and leading into the weekend, Sunday, May 5, with the Cubs Charities Youth Baseball and Softball Festival, a free public outdoor festival that will include several promotional giveaways and baseball activities including playing with current Cubs players.

Cubs Charities events this month include the following:

May 3 – A Lake View High School student will be named a 2019 Cubs Scholar during a surprise visit from Cubs Charities and Clark the Cub

May 3 – Archer Park Diamond Project ribbon-cutting ceremony

May 5 – Cubs Charities Youth Baseball and Softball Festival at Gallagher Way

May 9 – Ninth Annual Bricks and Ivy Ball

May 11 – Dawes Park Diamond Project ribbon-cutting ceremony

May 15 – Pick, Pack and Play event with Good Sports at Gallagher Way

May 20 – Cubs Jr. All-Stars rally at Franklin Elementary Fine Arts Center

May 22 – Cubs Charities and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation will announce more than $1.5 million in grants to local nonprofits during the Diamond Project Grants Brunch at Wrigley Field

May 28 – Joe Maddon to video chat with students at James Ward Elementary School to teach them about baseball, teamwork and good sportsmanship
